Deadline for submissions: November 15, 2009
In some manner, everything we say exists in response to what has been said before. The Salem Art Association seeks artists and writers for Dialogical, an art exhibition and experimental collaborative project that explores the way creative producers work in response to other creative work and the world.
This exhibition aims to promote area artists and writers while also addressing the need for more critical and analytical writing on contemporary art.
The exhibition will include the work of selected artists who carry on a dialogue with other work (art, literature, social issues, history, etc.) -- informed by and informing -- in a chain of developing imagery and ideas.
The selected writers will be paired with an artist or artist-group and will be asked to write about the artist’s or group’s work in a way that illuminates the dialogue in which the artwork engages while further extending the conversation.
Artists and writers selected for this exhibition will meet periodically with the exhibition curator during late fall and early winter. These meetings may include studio visits, writers’ workshops, and slide talks.
Selected participants must be available for artist studio visits to select artwork for the exhibition.
Events during the exhibit may include a panel of artists and writers and/or talks for the public.
The exhibit will be accompanied by a print-on-demand catalog of the written works by selected writers and images of the artwork from the exhibition.
Curator:
Pat Boas will review submissions and curate the Dialogical exhibit.
